Reminiscing Unleash the Power Within (UPW 2009) by Anthony Robbins

FireWalker Jerome Castaneda Reminiscing Unleash the Power Within (UPW 2009) by Anthony Robbins

Jerome Castaneda -the firewalker

I’ve immersed myself recently most of the time listening to Tony Robbins audio books like Personal Power II, Get the Edge, Conquering Overwhelming Loss: Rediscovering a Compelling Future and Negotiating Conflict: Leadership in Times of Crisis. With this immersion, I wanted to share my live experience with Anthony Robbins last year.

I attended UPW at Singapore, Expo last September 4-7, 2009.  On that night, I managed to conquer my fears by firewalking. Oh I still have the blister mark on my foot that I got during that event. I must say that it was the biggest event for that year for me and perhaps the other years as well. UPW did not change myself but rather taught me to become the person that I deserved to be. It taught me about who I am, what I love, what I hate, what excites me, and what drives me. The more I become the person that I wanted to be the easier for me to achieve what I want and to be fulfilled.

I’m just going to pick some principles from the 4 day event that I have applied from my journey.

The 3 Pillars of an Extraordinary Life

  1. Get laser-focused, make it clear and compelling. This first step is to clarify the results that I desire in life. What is your definition of an extraordinary quality of life? What do you need to take your life to the next level? Without a clear and compelling vision of what you want today, you won’t be able to find the target of lasting happiness. If you have the courage to face the truth of where you are, you will discover the path to where you want to be. In other words, you have to know your Why? What? Because clarity is power. Your Energy flows where your focus goes.
  2. Get the Best Tools/Map/Strategy/Coaching for Results. Once you’ve defined your target, you need an effective and efficient game plan to hit it. In order to close the “gap” between where you are and where you want to be, you need a proven map, an effective mentor, and training to drive you to take action. You must know somebody who is in the game because success leaves clues. Remember ignorance is poverty and pain.
  3. Get into Action! Unlock and Unleash, Alignment and Integration = Power. Sometimes tools are not enough, we need to unlock what’s blocking us and unleash the power. Why is it sometimes we know what to do, we have great motives for change, and yet we fail to follow through? Why we do what we do and how to change it. By understanding our personal blueprint, how we create meaning and emotion and what causes us to think, feel, and behave the way we do, we can not only gain the answers to these questions, but learn how to create lasting change and fulfilment.  We have to destroy limiting beliefs. We have to do massive action to achieve success, to contribute and to celebrate.

There are 2 skills to master for an extraordinary quality of life.

1. Science of Achievement or your ability to produce results; to take anything you envision and make it real.

2. Art of Fulfillment or your ability to feel happiness and joy in the process; to delight in the experience of life.

The secret to wealth and happiness is to become a team player. Happiness comes from progress. Progress shows in the form of growth and in the sense of contribution. Power moves to those who are truly committed to serve because life is more than you. Find a team of people that you love to work with.

Another area of philosophy that made impact to my life is through the 12 Master Principles of a Vital Life: The Power of Pure Energy. This topic was discussed entirely during the last whole day.

The first 8 are called The Gifts;

  1. The Power of Vital Breathing & Lymphasizing – to breathe deeply and to rebound vertically to cleanse your cells.
  2. The Power of Living Water and Live Foods
  3. The Power of Essential Oils
  4. The Power of Alkalinity – Go Green! – I already started to enjoy this process.
  5. The Power of Aerobic Energy
  6. The Power of Maximum Nourishment
  7. The Power of Structural Alignment and Maximum Strength
  8. The Power of a Directed Mind and Heart

The last 4 are called the Poisons;

  1. The Poison of Processed Fats
  2. The Poison of Animal Flesh
  3. The Poison of Dairy Products
  4. The Poison of Acid Addictions

Is Your Boss a Source of Inspiration or a Source of Stress?

boss-a-source-of-stress

boss-a-source-of-stress

This question just popped out of my mind after few hours had passed since my boss came from a week of business trip outside the country. I had the courage to ask some of my colleagues about this question. There’s no point of asking that obvious question, remarked one of my colleagues. The resounding answer therefore is stress. Let me clarify that there will never be an intention of picking or in anyway to degrade my boss. I have the highest respect to my boss since I joined the company. My intention here is to get ideas from other work experiences whether from other countries, cultures or any background. The ideas that will help us not necessarily to look for other great working environment or workplaces but perhaps to help our existing workplaces to become less stressful environment. Moving out to a different workplace will be our last resort if you see there is no hope of improvement.

Stress will always be part of our life but too much stress can cause health problems. Stress may also come from your co-workers with some annoying attitudes. Verbal discussions which can turn into noise pollutions in an open environment will definitely affect your productivity at work.

I’ve been working here in Singapore for more than 2 years already to a Marine Engineering and Consultancy firm. This is my first and only company so far since I came from the Philippines, my home country. Being the only Filipino from an Indian dominated company was a challenge for me during my first few months. Well there were few local Singaporean colleagues there as well, just 3 of them. Every time our boss goes for a business trip or if he’s not around, the mood is relaxed. This does not mean that we take our time to non productive tasks. Now, let me placed myself in my boss shoes or any business owner. I fully understand that the goal of every company is to generate consistent profits or hit their monthly targets. My question is how can you inspire your subordinates or your team to hit their realistic targets without causing too much stress to the employees? How can a boss be so confident that even if he leaves for a business trip, the employees are still inspired and motivated to perform their tasks at their own time?

My work experience here in Singapore is very different from my previous work in the Philippines. I had been to Japanese, US and local firms and most of the companies there had teambuilding events like sports fest, an outdoor trip to beaches, Christmas parties, karaoke’s, and anniversary events. Wow, I missed the fun of interaction with different co-workers. Here, let me see…hhhmm…oh I remember we ate our lunch out to a good restaurant which only happened once in a year. That’s all then back to work. I remember in my first few months that I even worked on a holiday. Normally I got double pay back in the Philippines but not here. Overstaying at work seemed to be a regular sight while office neighbours had gone home. Please don’t interpret me that I am whining because I know a friend that moved out of companies 3 times in just 2 years.

Again, my motivation here is how can we help improve our present situation or other with similar challenges in their workplace? Another reason why I’m asking you some of your experiences is that I have never talked to my boss regarding this kind of issue. I have other issues as well like I haven’t been invited for a performance evaluation since I started working here. Ok, that’s a totally different topic. I am not sure if the small size of our company of not more than 20 people is a limitation but I don’t want to look that way. Looks like my boss had a lot of roles being the businessman, sales, hiring manager, purchasing, technical head (even if we had 2 managers – for engineering and for research and development). Did I miss anything?

I will really appreciate your inspiring experiences so please leave you comments below both employers and employees.

Asia Internet Congress 2009 – an online business event not to be missed

asias dragon banner2 Asia Internet Congress 2009 an online business event not to be missed

It will be my first time to attend Asia Internet Congress this coming October 30-November 1, 2009 at Suntec Convention Centre and I am already excited to learn from the successful online entrepreneurs. Well, actually I managed to attend for the first time an internet marketing seminar at Global Internet Seminar last June 2009 at the Expo.  You can check about my reviews about the event at GIS. Even though it was a pitch fest to market their programs, I still managed to learn new ideas there without swiping my credit card. There I was able to interact directly to  internet marketing gurus like Ewen Chia, Stephen Pierce, Adam Ginsberg,Greg Cesar, Tom Hua, Patric Chan and the other top guns of the online business. Don’t be intimidated or feel bad if these people will sell you their programs either through soft or hard selling. Put yourself into their shoes or any business person, I’m sure you’ll need to sell yourself if you own a business. You need to promote your business so that it will spark an interest for people to buy. You will buy only if you see a value from your perspective. So this is actually a chance to network with other motivated people who are already successful in this business. Who knows we can create a joint venture business with each other or create a mastermind group to learn continuously since learning by yourself will be very much challenging.

Btw, this event will also be held at Wisma MCA, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this 23-25th of October see more info at Asia Internet Congress in Malaysia. The event is hosted by Fabian Lim, a respectable top online entrepreneur.

PS

Before I forget, an ongoing early bird discount 40sgd or RM70 off the normal price is until October 15 only. Hope to see you and learn together at the event. Please visit to learn more at AIC2009SG or AIC2009MY

How to Deal with Homesickness and Challenges as an Expatriate

How to Deal with Homesickness and Challenges as an Expatriate (Overseas Filipino Worker or OFW, in our local term)?

- Living a Life away from home and family.

It has been more than 2 years since I worked here in Singapore as a Mechanical CAD Engineer for a Marine and Offshore Engineering/Consultancy firm. Working in a mixed diverse culture can be challenging especially when you’re 1,486 miles apart from the Philippines. It was really tough working in my first few months here as I have to deal with different personalities (egocentrics) being the only Filipino from an Indian dominated company.

In my first few months here in Singapore, I invested a lot of money from my long distance calls to the Philippines. After sometime, I managed to invest a laptop and a PC at home.  With the current technology of internet, my family is just a computer away through Skype or Instant Messenger.

Being alone can really be tough so here are some of my effective tips to keep you active;

  • Believe You Can Lah – You are the Best!

In my first few months, I received discouraging remarks from my senior colleagues about my poor drafting work. I was told that I was very slow and I must admit that I have challenges in 2D Drafting since I was hired there for my expertise in 3D modelling software (AutoCAD Inventor). My self-esteem was affected and lessened. These people can not even suggest how I can increase my speed and effectiveness when I asked them, so now I know where I stand. Here’s what I did, come closer so that you can hear me and so that you can apply this as well to your life if ever, I simply psyched myself up. Deep in my mind, I was shouting within myself that “I am the BEST and FASTEST “(repeatedly over and over again) while I was doing my 2D design detailing job. Well, it didn’t work right away but after sometime when I submitted my work for review, this guy told me, “You’re so fast huh”.

  • Simply Connect

Days before my flight to Singapore, I simply get in touched with my friends, school mates so that they can help me in securing a place to stay. They are even generous to offer their place while am looking for my own place to stay. I managed to get a room for myself by joining some online forums. Google will always be there to help you connect.

  • Join Groups, Meetups, Seminars, Sports Activities – Connect More

Even before I arrived here in Singapore, my friend already told me that he included me in their basketball line up for the coming basketball league. Joining sports activities will always be a good way to connect with different people as well as to keep you physically fit. Speaking of being physically fit, I managed to join a health fitness gym just in front of our office building.

My friend was the one who introduced me to join our University Alumni Organization (University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Singapore). This organization offered a lot of activities like seminars, sports, tambayans (a place for hanging out), and a lot of fun. I recommend you to check out your college/university alumni organization.

I would highly recommend that you join religious community in your area. Here you can share your personal challenges in life and you’re assured of trust and confidentiality. Most of all you’ll have a deeper relationship with God. In my case I joined, Couples for Christ – Foundation for Family and Life which I considered as a gasoline station for my soul and spirit.

Meetups and Seminars – one way of reinforcing your beliefs or if you want

To learn and grow is by attending seminars. This is how I develop myself which I will not find in my job.

  • Read Books a lot – in my case listening to audiobooks

If there is one thing that I love about Singapore is the public library, my wealth of knowledge. Public Libraries are very accessible in every corner of Singapore. When I read their Vision and Mission, I was inspired that I can see the passion that it brings to Singapore; I’m sharing here their vision

“An inspiring beacon of  lifelong learning, bringing knowledge alive, sparking imagination and creating possibility for a vibrant and creative Singapore. Spurring the heights of imagination from the depths of our resources. This is our vision, our NLB

I would love to hear from your experiences living away from your family as an expatriate.

Global Internet Seminar day3

Just like day 2, the last day was as exciting and a great learning experience. I missed the opening sharing of the CEO of Success Resources, Mr. Richard Tan but nevertheless still got a good seat in the second row. Thanks to my friend Joy Ongkiko for reserving seats for us with Je Malata who came later.

The first marketer was Adam Ginsberg, the only guru on eBay for the whole event. He presented on how to buy, sell and profit on the internet thru eBay. He came up with some cool software (beta) that is very simple, step by step through an audience who volunteered on stage. Wow, $100 was awarded to the volunteer just by following Adam’s instruction on what to key in, not bad huh. It was actually my first time to learn about the ins and outs of eBay since I have no experience.  He’ll be back on August 21-23 for the eBay boot camp here in Singapore.

Next speaker was Stephen Pierce. The first half of his talk was more on inspirational, motivational stuffs about his experiences from nothing. In his rare bad experience, he told us that he got hit by a bullet in his knees due to his involvement with a gang fight. That was the turning point of his life and worked his way up to where he is now as one of the top internet marketers in the world.

According to him, there are 8 characteristics of the perfect internet money making opportunities for you;

  1. has rabid market of buyers
  2. system finds, gets, keeps and grows customers for you
  3. has multiple products deep sales funnel
  4. allows you to make +$1000 per sale
  5. pays you on other peoples marketing (affiliates)
  6. allows you to earn 24/7 (as money never sleeps)
  7. stuffs monthly residual cash into your bank account
  8. allows you to focus on one thing

“Internet does not require your permission but it requires your participation.”

On the last half of his talk he showed step by step hands on how to create a blogspot and used this as an affiliate campaign for Amazon (sort of your landing page for a particular product).

Steps to create an internet income were as follows;

  1. Create it (your website)
  2. Ping it (pingler.com)
  3. Social bookmark it
  4. Directories RSS, twitter
  5. Build of links

You need to sell what people buy and only sell to the buyers.

Hot tip: search on Amazon on bestsellers.

Next marketer was an upcoming 28 y.o. guy from Vince Tan who took his parents together with him (seated in the front row just in front of us). My friend was struck by this guy, she couldn’t imagined how it was to be mentored by him. She told me that she will just stare at him all day.hahaha. Imagination.

Vince  started showing his success accomplishments.  His first was the product Adsense Black Hat Edition which generated him SGD 14,500. His next hit was a great idea that they created while they were on an MRT about their sendUsTo.US campaign with their goal of being able to attend Mike Filsaime seminar which generated them a 100K SGD (not bad huh). And successes after success like BiggestFireSaledotCom, MegaRedPacketdotCom.

He shared his 3 Fundamental concepts which were;

1.) Triple W – win, win, and win

2.)  Massiveness (packaging, instant products + Double Quattro)

3.) Guru Mind Control (Joint Venture/Network) – here he showed how he used skills on communications by being the Master, The Force, The Negotiator and The Joker.

From these concepts he showed case studies about the products I mentioned above one by one.

Lastly, I think it was the best quote I heard from him, “Internet Marketing is not Rocket Science but it’s enough Science to Rocket your Income”. Wow!

The last speaker was Greg Cesar (every time I listened to him,  he reminds me of Eddie Murphy). He’s a very down to earth guy who will stop his talk  just for a pose if someone’s taking a photo shot.  He’s just funny. By the way,  I got his business card which he managed to give after the talk.

Kidding aside, he’s the Google Adwords guru that will teach you to get qualified traffic with less money to spend. He knows what it takes to make your site sell.

I love quotes so here’s another one that I take note of “The Quality of your Life will be based on the Quality of your Questions”.

So why Adwords because of traffic, control, fast, instant and easier.

Here are some Mindset Marketing Questions;

- Who are they?

- What are they looking for?

- Where are they getting it?

- Why do they want it?

- When do they need it?

There are lots of stuffs that I didn’t  include here since I’m still deciphering my notes but if you’re looking for instant traffic at less bids for Adwords Campaign.  Greg Cesar is the guy.

In the end, the event was very successful as what Success Resources have been always known for. I’m sure everyone learned a lot and gained new friends as well as I did.

Welcome to Singapore!

Finally, i made it to the Lion City . Actually, it was my third time since 2004 when I came here for a business training in Autodesk at Orchard. The second one was a month ago for my interview with my employer. I  was actually already working that time so I got paid for my airfare and it was a good deal afterall.

It was strange as I got lost on my way to the flat (apartment) and went down on the wrong bus stop.  It was too soon, perhaps by my eagerness, excitment and cluelessness about my direction. I had to walk with my trolley and backpack around to a 1-2 kilometer hike. My filipina housemate, Mimi was shocked to see me drenched in my sweat but with an eager smile.

So that’s how my first day in Singapore lah.
